Master Class Series |
|||
Since 1999, the Actors' Training Project of Oakland, CA, has sponsored a broad series of master classes and visits with dynamic artists who are working around the country and abroad. All of these extraordinary visitors are interested in the integration of acting, voice and movement skills that is the particular work of the Actors' Training Project; they also have a wide range of other profession-related interests and areas of expertise. Informal videotapes of all of the sessions are archived for student viewing. The Master Class Series has engendered exciting performances, collaborations and projects, both trans-national and trans-continental. ANNA HADZI: ACTRESS, PRODUCER
A native of South Africa, Anna has been studying acting with Bill Smith at The Acting Studio since 1996. She has also studied with Alan Osburn at the Denver Center Theatre Academy, and continues to study with Lee Massaro and Terry Dodd. Anna also brings to acting her training in Greek dance and modeling, and her current studies in both singing and tap dance. Anna has worked in both stage and film. Favorite stage roles include Veta Louise in Harvey, Queen Gertrude in an experimental adaptation of Hamlet and Evie in Living Dolls at Denver's popular The Changing Scene. Her recent indie film project, Dragon and the Hawk, premiered in March 2000; indie Getting Serious is shooting now. Most recently on stage, Anna was Guest Artist for the Actor Training Studio's DreamScenes in Kansas City, MO, in which she performed a one-woman piece, Thief of Tears. Anna brings to theatrical producing her higher degree in Financial Management and 15 years in the banking industry. She is a founding member of the Colorado Stage Company, and serves on the Board of Directors as Financial Officer and Treasurer. She continues to produce Murder at Café Noir for their Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre. She is currently co-producing a staged reading at The Denver Civic Theatre; this features several founding members of the Network of Co-operating Studios: playwright Andy Garrison (Kansas City) [The Family Flea], actor Patrick Cronin (Los Angeles) and acting coach Bill Smith (Denver). Says Director Andy Garrison: "Let me take a moment to talk about Anna Hadzi's process as an actor. She's analytical as needed, but getting to the "on-feet" work, she takes her time to "go in" and start from a really very intuitive place. And Anna works as hard as any actor I've come across, although she's well aware of her limits and calls a halt as she needs. Working with Anna for three days went really fast and it's an experience I can certainly recommend. Thanks, Anna!" |

SUNDAY, JUNE 11 | 10:00 TO 4:00
Performance, Rehearsal, Discussion The day will begin with Anna's performance of Thief of Tears. Anna prepared this piece with acting coach Bill Smith in Denver and then worked on it again with director Andy Garrison for performance in Kansas City. Discussion follows. The rest of the day we will focus on Ibsen's A DOLLHOUSE. Again, Anna has worked on this piece with Bill in Denver and seen Andy's version in KC. We'll have a Rehearsal/Discussion Fest that synthesizes Anna's, Bill's and Andy's ideas about the play itself--and about rehearsal--with our own. Knowledge of the play required. Lunch break 1:00 to 1:30; please bring your lunch. |

MONDAY, JUNE 12 | 6:30 TO 10
ATP Foundations: Movement and Rehearsal In Anna's honor, we will cover some of the advanced foundations integral to the movement and rehearsal approaches we use at the Actors' Training Project. An excellent introduction to our work. Physical conditioning, spatial relationships and scene study (A DOLLHOUSE, cont.). |
|||
TUESDAY, JUNE 13 | 6:30 TO 10
ATP Foundations: Voice and Rehearsal Again, in Anna's honor. Advanced foundations including the Students' Choice of vocal warm-ups, drills and exercises. These will then be integrated into further DOLLHOUSE rehearsal. |
