Master Class Series |
|||
Since 1999, the Actors' Training Project of Oakland, CA, has sponsored a broad series of master classes and visits with dynamic artists who are working around the country and abroad. All of these extraordinary visitors are interested in the integration of acting, voice and movement skills that is the particular work of the Actors' Training Project; they also have a wide range of other profession-related interests and areas of expertise. Informal videotapes of all of the sessions are archived for student viewing. The Master Class Series has engendered exciting performances, collaborations and projects, both trans-national and trans-continental. KUNSU SHIM and GERHARD STäBLER: COMPOSERS | |||
New Langton Arts hosts German composers Kunsu Shim and Gerhard Stäbler as part of ACUSTICA INTERNATIONAL SF 2000, a two-week celebration of sound art that brings artists from Europe and the U.S. together to perform in venues around the city. For FUTURESSENCEXXX (2000), Shim and Stäbler will work with Bay Area director Lissa Tyler Renaud in her studio to reinterpret these snippets of what Marinetti called "Onomotopoetic Artillery." Renaud's Oakland group of actors will perform them, with guest appearances by several Bay Area musicians. Shim and Stäbler contemporize Futurist plays and short bursts of texts by various artists including F. T. Marinetti and Paolo Buzzi; Renaud directs progams of early European avant-garde pieces, many of them in her original translations. "No other school of art has inspired people's creativity as vigorously as Futurism, which began in the early 20th century and still gives fresh impetus to various art forms," explains Stäbler. Futuressencexxx focuses on provocative plays from the futurist movement. Staged in collaboration with Lissa Tyler Renaud and her company at the Actors' Training Project, the original works are dramatized through musical compositions by composers Shim and Stäbler, both living in Germany. The music has, for the most part, been created at the ZKM, Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany. Futuressencexxx is co-produced with the Goethe Institute. |
